Describe your role.
My role is a hybrid role that focuses on leading a team and working hands-on with projects involving technology within all areas of technical operations. I am also responsible for making key decisions that relate to continuous improvement.
How long have you worked in consulting and what inspired you to pursue this field?
I have a deep passion and a wealth of experience spanning 15 years. I always like being challenged and complex problem solving and have a passion for innovation and learning new things. 84.51° gives me a little bit of everything.
What interested you in joining 84.51°?
Obviously, the unique name drew my attention when I was reached out by a recruiter. In 2016, I was interviewed for a contractor position on the data foundation team where I had a serendipitous connection with the role. I was lucky enough to get the offer to become a full-time associate in 2021, and since then it’s been awesome experience where I am always learning and growing.
What has been the most memorable experience or favorite project you’ve worked on?
Every project that I have designed and been a part of is my favorite – learning from the past and making it better the next time. The people at 84.51° are talented and gracious. In every team that I’ve worked with, it’s always been pleasant and enjoyable work experience.
What’s your favorite part about working at 84.51°? Do you have a favorite benefit or perk that is offered?
Work is constantly interesting and skill-enhancing. Early Friday is one of my favorite benefits where you get an early start to the weekend to spend with your family. I also enjoy Fearless Friday, an afternoon designed to be meeting-free where I can spend time on my personal technical growth and training.
What advice would you give to those who are considering working in this field?
Stay flexible. Engineering is a very broad field with lots of opportunities.
Embrace change. Rapid advances in technologies and thinking mean nothing if engineering stands still.
Learn from mistakes. As an engineer, you will make mistakes and you will fail. Mistakes are part of the process, particularly if you work with cutting-edge technologies, processes or systems. You should use these situations as an opportunity to learn, develop and improve.
What do you like to do in your free time outside of work hours?
Most of my free time is spent playing with my kids, painting and crafting.
